Have you ever ordered anything online? If so, you’ve likely dealt with a drop shipping business. “What’s that?” you might ask. The short answer is- a drop-shipper, is the “middle-man” between a whole seller and a customer. In other words, when a customer buys a product from you, you then take the order and forward it to the whole seller. They then process, package, and deliver the shoes to your customer and you are given the mark-up value as commission from the purchase of the shoes.
Sounds easy right? Well here are a few pros and cons to help you decide. We’ll begin with the pros.
Easy Startup
It takes very little money to start. You don’t have to put in thousands of dollars to begin this business.
Low Risk
If you don’t profit and decide to quit, you won’t lose large sums of money because you never owned anything.
Now, before you say, “Wow, that sounds great! I want to start”, here’s the cons.
Low Profits
As previously mentioned, your profits only come from your customers. Therefore, if you can’t attract customers, than you have no money.
Competition
There are a lot of drop-shipping businesses. You will have to create a brand that will stand out and attract customers. Many have tried being drop-shippers, but many have failed because they don’t know how to compete in this type of high tech environment.
Now, you have seen a few pros and cons about drop-shipping and you still would like to know more, my suggestion is to research carefully. Two names that you might want to look at are WooCommerce and Shopify. These two platforms are a good place to start. Good luck!
