Hov Johnny Phou is a Cambodian-American who was born in Cambodia but immigrated to the United States as a young boy. He was raised and educated in the city and state of San Francisco, California, and now lives and works in Phnom Penh as an ESL Head Teacher at Mao Tse Tong Campus.
Mr. Phou holds a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Psychology along with some unique experiences of having been raised in the United States education system. Besides English, his other fields of interests include Science, History, Mathematics, and sports. He is a big fan and player of American sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. He hopes to one day implement these sports into Cambodia’s Physical Education system.
Johnny started his teaching career as a tutor in San Francisco, California. He later decided to expand and develop his teaching experience internationally by acquiring his online TEFL teaching certificate with plans of teaching in Cambodia, his birthplace. On June 4th, 2019, Johnny joined Aii as a full time ESL Teacher at Chak Angre Campus.
Three years later, Mr. Phou has been promoted as an ESL Head Teacher for the Mao Tse Tong Campus. He believes that his journey as a teacher is “such a wonderful life experience”.
“I believe everyone should be a teacher at least once in their life. I think everyone has something in them that they can teach someone, even if it’s not English. Learning is something that we all do every day. It never stops. So why not be a teacher and do it everyday?”
