Outside the standard basis of every educational curriculum, there are endless opportunities for students to learn new skills and ignite new passions. Extracurricular activities are a dynamic element in any child’s development. Extracurricular activities require students to go above and beyond their school regular requirements. However, studies have shown that students who participate in extracurricular activities not only perform well in academic, but also better learn the life skills necessary for success after school. Here are three key reasons why student should participate extracurricular activities.
1. Boost academic performance: Participating in activities that students are passionate about can increase their brain function, help them concentrate and manage their time better. In a study by the Texas A&M University, important academic outcomes like reading, math achievement and course grades were all found to be positively influenced by children who engage in extracurricular activities.
2. Learn new skills: When students participate in different activities, they will get the opportunity to explore a range of interests and unlock the passions that they might never knew they had!
3. Build Higher Self-esteem: The more students achieve success through activities they are passionate about, the more they will improve self-confidence.
Although students probably think that participating in extracurricular activities might take their time, they can help students succeed in much more than just their academic endeavors.
So go join a club, participate in a contest or volunteer in an event. What are you waiting for?
